Grammy-winning pop vocal group Pentatonix delivers a solid cover of the Camilla Cabello pop gem, “Havana.”
This’ll be a short, but sweet track review. Vocal group Pentatonix is back doing what they do best – covering pop gems. Naturally “Havana” – the no. 2 Billboard Hot 100 hit by Camila Cabello – qualifies as a gem. For Cabello, this was her breakthrough hit, following the forgettable “Crying in the Club.” The success of “Havana” would help Cabello earn her first no. 1 album with Camila in January 2018. But this isn’t about Camilla, but rather PTX.
In the hands of PTX, there’s room for more musicality on “Havana” compared to the original. Obviously, beat boxing and colorful vocal effects is a starting place when comparing this cover to the original. One of the more unique moments by Kevin Olusola comes towards the end as he creates a trumpet sound vocally. Beyond that, there’s the stellar contrast between the lower, more robust vocals of Scott Hoying and higher vocals by Mitch Grassi and Kirstin Maldonado. Grassi naturally incorporates his skillful falsetto into the mix. As always, the blend is amazing.
Final Thoughts
All in all, Pentatonix delivers an awesome cover of “Havana.” As always, the pop collective serves up superb vocals, and sweet harmonies.
