“Are you down in the dumps? / Mascara in clumps? / Sad girl for months? / Don’t text him.” Word.  Pattie Gonia (they/she/he) gives sound advice to the girls on “Disco Queen” – don’t let that man destroy you! Instead, the drag queen, environmentalist, and musician encourages her to “get your girls and get your gays,”  “Hang up now bitch,” and swears “The club tonight will be my revival.” Sounds like a girls night out without those ‘straight’ fellas to ruin the party. Gonia is going to prove she’s the disco queen.  She needs a captive audience!

“Disco Queen” is a bop that makes you beam with pride from the beginning.  It was written by Pattie Gonia, Abraham John Rounds, Caroline Kingsbury, Jacob Sherman, Tyler Chester, and Tyson Motsenbocker. Sleekly produced with a modern disco sound, Chester, Rounds, Sherman, and  James Krausse work ‘behind the boards.’  Gonia has ample inspiration for her girl’s night out at the club – fat bass, infectious groove, keys, and articulated, jubilant horns. Ooh-wee! As the bop progresses, she continues encouraging ignoring those pathetic men! “Are you tired of men? / I’m so tired of them / But, he’s good in bed / Don’t text him.”  It is hard to avoid good sex, but the ladies will be keeping their pride – no matter the size or the degree of pleasure! There will be no sexing the pain the way – only dancing the pain away! Pattie Gonia slays on “Disco Queen”.
