Pastor Mike Jr., Amazing | Music Lifts

In the 42^nd edition of Music Lifts (2023), we’re uplifted by gospel musician Pastor Mike Jr. performing, “Amazing.”

Welcome to Music Lifts , a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.  Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the 42^nd edition of Music Lifts (2023), we highlight “Amazing” as performed by gospel musician Pastor Mike Jr..

“I remember when / I remember, I remember when he saved my life.” .  Say that, say that, Pastor Mike Jr.! He continues singing on “Amazing”, a highlight from his 2023 album, Impossible: “Everything before that was just a blur / I was wild, living real foul, I just weren’t right.” If the melody and some of the lyrics from “Amazing” sound familiar, there’s a reason why – Pastor Mike Jr. repurposes the aughts classic, “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley ( CeeLo Green on vocals).  In the Mike Jr.’s hands, the tempo is much slower, the lyrics take on a spiritual perspective, and the record goes deeper. The centerpiece is the chorus:

“My God is amazing

Simply amazing

He is amazing

That’s why I believe

The truth is I should be crazy

I thank God he saved me

My God is amazing

I believe.”

Throughout “Amazing,” Pastor Mike Jr. delivers a soulful brand of vocals.  He has a swagger about him. Furthermore, he sounds fully invested into praising God and testifying about his amazingness (“With every win and loss, in spite of my many flaws / You are our God, you held me down so you can lift me up”).  It’s not all Mike Jr. though, as he gets a major lift from his backing choir. The choir sounds utterly sublime with those vocal harmonies giving off those chills.  The music lift , of course, is how amazing, merciful, and powerful God is – all glory and honor to him !
