Pittsburgh-bred, Los Angeles-based, pop musician Parker Matthews showcases immense potential on single, “Hit and Run.” Clearly, he’s on an upward trajectory.
Pop music just might have found its next star in Parker Matthews. Despite a lack of personal acquaintance, its apparent reading about Parker that he’s the type of person you want to cheer on and will towards success. What stands out about this Los Angeles-based musician, originally from Pittsburgh, is the impact that music has had on him, particularly through adversity. Bullying, suicidal thoughts – deep stuff. Furthermore, his activism, and his hunger to connect to people through music is awesome. Throw in influences including Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, and Adele, and it’s clear this Matthews has a clear artistic vision. He delivers on that vision on his enjoyable single, “Hit and Run,” which follows previous single, “Lost with You.”
The exuberance is apparent from the start of “Hit and Run,” which commences with rhythmic guitar accompaniment. This accompaniment is constant throughout the record, contributing to the overall rhythmic flow. Parker Matthews sings with incredible ease on the first verse, something that recurs later on the second. Matthew never over-sings or forces things, providing just the right amount of oomph. As “Hit and Run” progresses towards its ‘crowning achievement,’ the chorus, Matthews amps up the energy and overall intensity. Still, he never loses control, maintaining balance. That’s a big selling point. Also big – the chorus is infectious, a must for pop record!
Final Thoughts
The pros for Matthews and “Hit and Run” far outweigh the cons. Clearly, this newbie is on an upward trajectory. There are no deal-breaking cons to be found. None at all, unless a deeper, nitpicking discussion about modern pop clichés feels appropriate. It doesn’t in the least. Boxes are checked off without a hitch, making “Hit and Run” a success. Looks, voice, sound, catchy chorus – #Winning. Check him out!
