Paramore, After Laughter © Fueled By RamenNine months after releasing the triumphant ‘After Laughter,’ Paramore drops the album’s fourth single, “Rose-Colored Boy.”

Despite the fact that After Laughter was released May 12, 2017, Paramore releases another single from the project.  The latest single from After Laughter is “Rose-Colored Boy.” Backtracking a bit, After Laughter was a terrific album by the Grammy-winning alternative band.  Honestly, After Laughter should’ve been honored with a Grammy nomination at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.  That said, no need to cry over spilt milk.  Originally the selected gems from After Laughter were: “Hard Times”, “Told You So”, “Forgiveness,” “Fake Happy,” and “Grudges.”  Notice “Rose-Colored Boy” ‘got no fame.’ Did it deserve it?

“Low-key, no pressure, just hang with me and my weather.”  By far, the most addictive, infectious, and memorable lyric from “Rose-Colored Boy.” With After Laughter built upon 80s vibes, “Rose-Colored Boy them going strong without a hitch.  The production is incredibly sleek – candy to the ears. Vocally, Hayley Williams shines throughout, most notably on the chorus.

“Just let me cry a little bit longer
I ain’t gon’ smile if I don’t want to
Hey man, we all can’t be like you
I wish we were all rose-colored too
My rose-colored boy.”

At times, After Laughter is a very personal project, particularly pertaining to Williams. “Rose-Colored Boy,” for all its infectious glory, is a personal example of a song with more substance than apparent.  Williams experienced her share of ups and downs. She essentially states, not everyone is always in a good mood or a good place. As my friends and I once said, ‘back-when,’ true dat.

Final Thoughts

Addressing the earlier question, does “Rose-Colored Boy” deserve ‘fame’ aka more notoriety? The answer is yes.  After Laughter is an elite album, filled with numerous fantastic cuts.  “Rose-Colored Boy” is fantastic as well, but, at the time, there were even more elite cuts.  “Rose-Colored Boy” is devoid of flaws. Ultimately, it’s well-performed, well-produced, and well-rounded.
