Panic! At the Disco, Pray for the Wicked © Fueled by RamenThe ever-theatrical Brendon Urie and Panic! At the Disco returns announce a new album, ‘Pray for the Wicked,’ led by promo single, “(Fuck a) Silver Lining.”

Get excited folks – Panic! At the Disco is back.  The follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Death of a Bachelor (2016) arrives June 22, 2018.  With the announcement of Pray for the Wicked, fittingly, frontman Brendon Urie dropped two new singles: “(Fuck a) Silver Lining” and “Say Amen (Saturday Night).” “Can I get a hallelujah?”

It’s safe to say that Urie opens Pray for the Wicked with quite the bang.  A bomb has been detonated, and it’s NOT an atomic one.  No, it’s a f-bomb as Urie proclaims on the spirited, unapologetic course, fuck a silver lining.

“Fuck a silver lining
Fuck a silver lining
'Cause only gold is hot enough, hot enough
Fuck a silver lining
Fuck a silver lining
'Cause only gold is hot enough, hot enough
One more, one more.”

Throughout the course of the record, the huge personality of Urie is a constant. As impressive as his vocals are, his theatrics are of equal importance.  On “(Fuck a) Silver Lining,” like most Panic! At the Disco songs, he successfully blends both facets of himself.  The production is bold and busy, while Urie’s investment into the music is stronger than ever.  His assertive, gritty vocals continue to cut right through, while his falsetto reaches even higher heights.  This attitude successfully conveys his message – the silver lining is useless thing.

Final Thoughts

The first thoughts when hearing this record is that’s it’s a lot to take in.  There’s a lot going on and generally a lot to sort through.  This is typical of Brendon Urie and Panic! At the Disco.  Sometimes it wins massive fans, while at other times, it won’t be for everybody.  As polarizing as the music can be, personally, it’s another welcome addition to the P!ATD collection.  No, it doesn’t supplant the incredible “Death of a Bachelor,” but it certainly sets up Brendon for another intriguing, likely idiosyncratic album.
