“I dreamed of Jeannie with delight / And Mary moanin’ in the night / As I became with all my might / A Ladiesman.” DO NOT let anyone tell you that jazz vocalists can’t cross lines. 🎙 Oscar Brown Jr. certainly does on his superb, 1972 classic, 🎵 “A Ladiesman”.  “A Ladiesman” highlights Brown’s album, 💿 Movin’ On. Poetically, rhythmically, and most important, sensually, Brown Jr. brings freakiness, perfectly soundtracking what it means to fully embody a ladiesman.

“Developed into a fuller flower / This throbbing thrust of manly power / Consumed me every waking hour / A Ladiesman.” So, yeah, basically, Brown Jr. thinks with his other head, his penis.  Charming! He continues, “I felt the urge, that awful itch / It mounted to a fever pitch / I had me girls no matter which / A Ladiesman.” Damn! There is more, such as, “A woman feels, a man may guess / That she conceals beneath her dress / A trap in which she can possess,” as well as “She throws the bait, she shows the lure / There’s no escaping, that’s for sure…” It’s not all sex, though, as Brown Jr. reflects on his conquests too: “I look back at the life I’ve led / What would my powers have got, instead / Had I not shot so much in bed / A Ladiesman.” That said, he also encourages enjoying ladiesman status: “Enjoy your prime / Until your fateful date with time / When no longer can you claim, ‘Hey, I’m a Ladiesman.’” All of these colorful, risqué lyrics backed by a jazzy, rhythmic, soulful backdrop, sigh.

To reiterate, do NOT let those jazz artists fool you – they can get down too! On 🎵 “A Ladiesman”, Oscar Brown Jr. utterly stimulates us, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! This 50 year old song remains a vibe, a does a magnificent job of serving up a heaping dose of S-E-X!
