Olivia Returns to Top, H.E.R. Starts 6th | Scanning the Charts

Scanning the Charts (6/30/21): Olivia Rodrigo returns to no. 1, while H.E.R. debuts at no. 6 on the Billboard 200. 

Well, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations from the Billboard 200 ,  and FIVE observations from the Billboard Hot 100 , with Olivia Rodrigo returning to no. 1 with Sour, H.E.R. launching at no. 6 with Back of My Mind, and BTS remaining kings of the Hot 100 with “Butter”.

Olivia Rodrigo returns to no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with her critically acclaimed debut album, SOUR.

Polo G, who earned his first no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 last week, sees Hall of Fame slip to no. 2.  The other big rap debut last week, Migos’ Culture III, slips from no. 2 to no. 4.

Academy award and Grammy-winning R&B artist H.E.R. launches at no. 6 with her debut album, Back of My Mind.

The next highest debut beyond Back of My Mind comes from SEVENTEEN, who see Your Choice: 8^th Mini Album (EP), start at no. 15.

Sigh, he doesn’t sell/impact like he once did.  Gucci Mane debuts at no. 34 with Ice Daddy, the final debut in the top 80 of the Billboard 200.

Billboard Hot 100  

BTS spends a fifth consecutive week on top of the Billboard Hot 100 with “Butter”.

DaBaby earns the ‘Hot Shot Debut’ at no. 39 with single, “Ball If I Want To.”

Country artist Walker Hayes lands the second highest debut on the Hot 100 with “Fancy Like” at no. 51.  

Country musician Justin Moore debuts at no. 85 with “We Didn’t Do Much.”

Tyler, The Creator launches at no. 93 with “Lumberjack”, the promo single from his 2021 album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.
