Swedish production duo NOTD, and German DJ/producer Felix Jaehn, assisted by Captain Cuts and Georgia Ku, deliver a solid dance joint, “So Close.”
When numerous dance/electronic DJs and producers come together, the result is usually positive. That is the case with Swedish production duo NOTD and German DJ/producer Felix Jaehn. NOTD and Jaehn receive addition assistances, courtesy of Californian producers/remixers Captain Cuts. Unsurprisingly, the resulting “So Close” yields a star-studded production collaboration. And was it mentioned that there’s a vocalist as well, Georgia Ku?
Focusing on the production a bit more, “So Close” benefits from its bright, rhythmic sound from the onset. Given the skill ‘behind the boards,’ there’s excellent use of synths, vocal effects, and much more throughout the course of the record. That said, the clear, nuanced vocals by Georgia Ku are an integral part of the record. She possesses a lovely tone, amplified by strong vocal production and backing vocals. The vocals really pop on the pre-chorus and chorus sections. Mixed with the rhythm, it’s an awesome, distinct sound. On the pre-chorus, Ku sings:
“Oh, I still wish we could go back to where we started
When you left your T-shirt at my old apartment
Have you ever wondered if you loved me harder
Where we’d be, where we’d be now?”
Prudently, there is clear separation between the pre-chorus and chorus sections. On the chorus, Georgia Ku sings:
“Yeah, we got so close, so close to love
But you had to go and mess it up
Was it all too much or just not enough?
When we got so close, so close to love.”
Final Thoughts
Perhaps the biggest rub with “So Close” is that it grows a bit repetitive as it progresses. That said, all in all, it’s a solid dance record, and the vibe is undeniable. Talented producers and a talented vocalist make “So Close” ‘so good.’
