Noah Cyrus & MAX, Team © RECORDSRising pop artists Noah Cyrus (sister of Miley) and MAX prove they make a formidable ‘team’ on their alluring, collaborative new single, “Team.”

Is there room for two Cyrus – in the same generation that is? Perhaps.  Noah Cyrus is the younger sister of Miley Cyrus, who has had a great deal of success as an actress and singer. Noah has shown flashes of promise early on in career (“Make Me (Cry)”), as well as some more questionable moments (“I’m Stuck” and arguably, XXXTentacion collaboration, “Again”).  Here, Cyrus experiences one of the better moments of her young career, pairing with rising singer MAX for “Team.”

It’s safe to say that Noah Cyrus and MAX make a solid team on “Team.” Initially, the pair is accompanied by solely by guitar, giving the record an intimate feel. Cyrus sings the first half of the first verse, not sounding totally different from Miley. No, she probably doesn’t want to be compared to her sister as she’s trying to carve out her own career, but the similarities are here. In this context, that’s a pro. MAX contrasts with his beautiful, smooth vocals – what a tone he possesses.  Following the pre-chorus, slightly more robust production enters on the chorus, namely an anchoring beat.

“So, whenever you’re losin’

I’ll celebrate ya

Appreciate ya

I’ll get you up on your feet

Whenever you’re winning

I’ll give you strength, boy

And I’ll cheer your name, girl

‘Cause I’ll always be on your, I’ll always be on your team

Yeah, I’ll always be on your team.”

On the second verse, the pair duets more often than not, with great results.  This continues onto the second and third choruses, which are much more dynamic and high-flying than the first.  The vocal harmonies pop, not to mention the ad-libs, specifically by Noah Cyrus.  Vocally, she’s improving, becoming much more mature.  As for MAX, well, he has always been impressive, and continues on his upward trajectory.

Final Thoughts

Going into “Team,” the expectations were low.  At one point, it even crossed my mind NOT to review it.  Glad that didn’t happen! Noah Cyrus proves that she definitely has something to offer in her own right.  It may take her a while to carve her own niche in the music industry, but she’s certainly had her share of promising moments.  “Team” is among them.
