Nikki Giron is a name you certainly don’t want to forget. The Denver, Colorado singer, songwriter, and saxophonist is building her career on incorporating the best, timeless elements of the past, yet bringing incredible relevance and musical maturity to the present.  The perfect example of her blend of vintage in a modern day setting his her latest single, “Granted.”

“Granted” is an absolutely scrumptious blend of the blues, jazz, and R&B. Although a lengthy number approaching six minutes in duration, “Granted” definitely exceeds expectations and transcends its ambitious length. Commencing with a lovely, soulful piano intro, the record is comprised merely of piano and voice. A simple script on paper, Giron truly owns “Granted” from the start. Her vocals are bluesy in their own right, in addition to being characterized as playful and tasteful.  Incredibly instinctual, exhibiting top-notch musicianship, naturally, she knows when to ‘push forward’ and when to ‘pull back.’ This contrast plays to the central idea of the record – refusing to concede her pride despite being ‘taken for granted.’ In addition to the ‘push and pull,’ there’s an excellent range of dynamics throughout the course of this performance.

Final Thoughts

Winner, winner, winner! Nikki Giron “shines like a diamond” on “Granted,” period. As aforementioned, it’s a successful blend of multiple styles and incredible musicianship that makes this a surefire gem.  Alongside that musicianship, Giron seems to know where her artistic lane is. That’s nothing short of awesome.
