Near Death Experience Excite With “Conquer”
Contributed by George James
“Conquer” is the latest release from British rock band Near Death Experience. The band are hitting the nail on the head with this track. It is the modern-day equivalent of the greats from generations before us. They have taken a strong influence but yet have also put together a sound of their own. I am relishing it.
It starts with the melody taking the focal position. Ian ‘Talent’ Whiteling (Lead singer) repeats their strong hook ‘She Came, She Saw, She Conquered’. It is cleverly done for sure because this is the foundation which gets stuck deep inside of our mind. As a result, when we hear it again in the latter, it feels like we have listened many times before.
I like the structure they have gone with here. It is astutely put together and each section transitions effortlessly into the next. I doubt this is random, the band have sat down and worked this out meticulously. The guitar lead sounds a little like something the ‘Edge’ would come out with on a U2 album. The vocals have an elongated reverb effect I like but definitely would have been more suited had it been released many decades ago. Either way, it works and sounds edgy.
The chorus gets big. Play it loud, and you will instantly go on a ride. The group also combine a subtle chorus effect texture on the guitar which works wonders on the already colossal sound. One thing is for sure, the band came, they saw, and they conquered. Also, if this track is anything to go by, then we are in for a treat with their next. So, why are you waiting? Get your lugs round this one now.
Four out of five – George James.
