Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo proves he’s ‘still got it’ on his enjoyable, sensual R&B ballad, “Show Me.”
“Baby, we can small talk /… But I think we both know why you here / Baby, I know what you came for.” Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo (Shaffer Smith) has matters of the bedroom on his mind in his late 2024 single, “Show Me”. Often, when you like someone, and both parties want to be intimate, small talk wastes time you could be… doing it! Smith and Camper (Dahryl Camper, Jr.) penned the sensual R&B ballad. Camper produced it.
“Biting your bottom lip, eye contact / I knew you was ready.” Oh, snap! “Show Me” shows off naughty, romantic, and sexual vibes from the beginning. Ne-Yo, who has been in the game a long time, still shines from a vocal perspective. His pipes are buttery smooth. Smith also delivers flawless falsetto and sweet ad-libs. The melodies are tuneful in the verses as well as the centerpiece, the chorus:
“Oh, girl, can you show me
Can you be savage?
Girl, can you show me?
Give me passion
Baby, if you really ‘bout that action
You gotta show me
Need you to focus
Girl, can you show me?
Give me passion
Baby, is you really ‘bout that action.”
Simply put, Ne-Yo wants to ‘get it on’ with her, badly. By the end of the second verse, he asserts, “I’ma work it like a job / And baby, I stand on business.” There’s no doubt about that! Ultimately, “Show Me” is an enjoyable, well-rounded contemporary R&B track. It benefits from a strong vocal performance by Ne-Yo, sensual songwriting and vibes, an ear-catching harmonic progression, and respectable production and musical accompaniment. This isn’t game-changing or as memorable as 00s Ne-Yo, but it’s worth spinning.
