On the 7th edition of Throwback Vibez (2022), we recollect and reflect on “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” by Natalie Cole.
T
he vibes, the vibes, those Throwback VibezTheme & Lyrics
“This will be an everlasting love / This will be the one I’ve waited for / This will be the first time anyone has loved me, oh, oh, oh.” You CANNOT discuss the late, great Natalie Cole without her ‘ace in the hole.’ Which of her many hits is that ‘ace in the hole?’ It’s a simple, no-brainer folks:
“This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).” Cole kills it on this bright, exuberant, jazzy, spirited, and instantly recognizable soul classic. The excerpted lyrics are ICONIC!
“Hugging and squeezing
And kissing and pleasing
Together forever through rain or whatever
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah you and me.”
“This Will Be” graces one of Cole’s most important, notable albums, Inseparable from 1975. Somehow, “This Will Be” isn’t Cole’s highest-peaking single. I’m calling BS! Regardless, “This Will Be” is by far the most decorated song of her illustrious career, peaking at no. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Inseparable itself was a top 20 album. Cole landed a
Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance for this song, winning the Grammy for Best New Artist of the Year.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, there’s not a lot more to be said about “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)”. It is a surefire classic that speaks for itself – it doesn’t need endless analysis. This is one of the greatest songs of all time.
