Mylo, Jonesing [Photo Credit: Myylo]Rising Nashville-based pop musician Myylo delivers a sublime gem about the plight of a long-distance relationship on single “Jonesing.”

In 2018, while pop music had its fair share of moments, arguably, it wasn’t the greatest year that the genre has seen.   That said, one demographic expanded for the better – the number of supremely talented LGBTQ musicians releasing utterly compelling, distinct, and totally awesome music.  If “Jonesing,” the brilliant new single from emerging Nashville-based LGBT pop singer/songwriter Myylo is any indication, then the upward trajectory will only continue to expand in 2019.  If you’ve never heard of or checked out Myylo, get to know this colorful, rising musical stud, who “mixes idiosyncratic lyricism, janky classical guitar, lo-fi saxophone licks, and sky-high falsettos to create something truly special.”

There are ample reasons why “Jonesing” is a rousing success for Myylo.  Thematically, he’s struggling with the infamous long-distance relationship. In his eyes, this boy is ideal in numerous respects, but the distance is a problem.  What isn’t a problem is the music ear-candy – the ear-catching excellence that Myylo blesses the audience with.  The production is brilliant throughout, including keyboards, drum programming, and a fitting saxophone solo appearing at the conclusion of the record. Lovely, warm, and soulful vocal harmonies arrive at the onset, instantly giving “Jonesing” a throwback, R&B vibe.  Ultimately, this just adds to the glory of this superb modern pop-soul record.

Theme and production bode well in Myylo’s favor, but so does his voice and his overall performance. Myylo delivers fun, irresistibly delicious, tongue-in-cheek vocals; He has plenty of energy, an excels with his playful, flirty delivery. Melodically, “Jonesing” is quite rhythmic, devoid of dull moments. The catchiest sections of the song are the pre-chorus and chorus, clearly where the ‘bread is buttered.’ Interestingly, the bridge finds Myylo busting out some bars, embracing gimmickry including those good ole pitch-shifted vocals (nice nod to hip-hop).

Final Thoughts

Myylo’s pain of “wanting a boy who’s just too damn far away” is our listening pleasure (quasi-schadenfreude perhaps?).  “Jonesing” is the perfect, love-longing soulful-pop single to warm up winter.  Excellent vocals, production, and songwriting make this a single that shouldn’t only pique the interest of the LGBT community, but pop music enthusiasts everywhere.  Don’t sleep on the gem that is Myylo – he’s got a lot to offer.
