Ah – another Friday, another list of new albums to check! Beginning on Friday, February 17, 2017, some notable new releases arrive courtesy of Jidenna (The Chief) and Ryan Adams (Prisoner) among others.  The others are no slouches – Alison Krauss (Windy City), Charlie Wilson (In It to Win It), and Fat Joe & Remy Ma (Plata O Plomo).

Finally, the “Classic Man” himself, Jidenna, drops his highly anticipated debut album, The Chief.  Despite releasing several singles ahead of The Chief, the rollout for the album is relatively quiet.  The biggest featured guest of note is label mate Janelle Monaé (“Safari”).

Ryan Adams returns with his first album of originals since his 2014 self-titled album.  Prisoner is Adams’ first new album since he covered Taylor Swift’s 1989 in 2015. Three singles arrived ahead of the album: “Do You Still Love Me?,” “Doomsday,” and “To Be Without You.

Country musician Alison Krauss returns with her first new album in six years, Windy CityWindy City follows her 2011 album, Paper Airplane, with Union Station.  For Windy City, Krauss goes it solo.  Three singles were issued prior to the album: “Losing You,” “Windy City,” and “River in the Rain.”

R&B legend Charlie Wilson returns with his eighth studio album, In It to Win ItIn It to Win It arrives two years after Forever Charlie (2015).  Interestingly, In It to Win It is Wilson’s first non-Charlie titled album since Bridging the Gap in 2000.  Two singles arrived before the album: “I’m Blessed” and “Chills.”

Veteran rapper Fat Joe returns with a joint effort with Remy Ma.  For Fat Joe, Plata O Plomo marks his first album in seven years (The Darkside, Vol. 1, 2010).  For Remy Ma, the drought extends to the 00s.  Her most notable effort came in 2006 with There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True StoryPlata O Plomo is a star-studded affair.
