SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week (📉 Taylor Swift Spends 3rd Week at No. 1 with Evermore), this column won’t be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that 💩 moving. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations 🔎 from the Billboard 200 📉, and FIVE observations 🔎 from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Morgan Wallen debuting in commanding fashion atop the Billboard 200 with 💿 Dangerous: The Double Album.
Billboard 200 📉
💭 After reclaiming the no. 1 spot last week, 🎙 Taylor Swift sees 💿 Evermore slip to no. 2. Don’t feel too sorry for Ms. Swift, who had one heck of a successful year in 2020 – understatement.
💭 After a six-year hiatus, 🎙 Jazmine Sullivan not only released a comeback album, 💿 Heaux Tales (it’s EP depending on who you ask, despite being 14 tracks/32 minutes long), but also debuts at no. 4, the first top-five album of her career.
💭 🎙 Barry Gibb, the sole remaining Gibb brother, debuts at no. 15 on the Billboard 200 with 💿 Barry Gibb & Friends: Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook
💭 🎙 Paul McCartney sees 💿 McCartney III just hang on to a spot on the charts. In its fourth week, McCartney III freefalls from no. 90 to no. 200. Ouch!
Billboard Hot 100 📉
💭 After returning to no. 1 for two consecutive weeks, 🎙 24kGoldn and 🎙 iann dior fall to no. 2 with their dominant hit single, 🎵 “Mood.”
💭 Expectedly, 🎙 Morgan Wallen earns some debuts on the Hot 100 including 🎵 “Wasted on You” (no. 9), 🎵 “Sand in My Boots” (no. 32), and 🎵 “Warning” (no. 42).
💭 🎙 Saweetie and 🎙 Doja Cat debut at no. 39 with their friendship-themed collaboration, 🎵 “Best Friend”.
💭 Jazmine Sullivan debuts at no. 95 with “Pick Up Your Feelings,” one of the best songs from her comeback project, 💿 Heaux Tales.
