On this edition of 5ive Songs, we select five songs that are associated with a MOOD in some form or fashion.
On 5ive Songs, we (I) keep things short and sweet – no extra calories or needless fluff. There’s a topic, five songs, and a short blurb that doesn’t exceed a paragraph. Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume. On this edition of 5ive Songs, we select five songs that are associated with MOOD in some form or fashion.
1. 24kGoldn, “Mood”
Ft. iann dior
🎵 “Mood” • 🏷 Records LLC / Columbia • 🗓 2020
“Why you always in a mood? Fuckin ‘round, actin’ brand new / I ain’t tryna tell you what to do, but try to play it cool / Baby, I ain’t playing by your rules /Everything look better with a view, yeah.” There is no need for any frills or extra bells and whistles when it comes to commentating about 🎵 “Mood.” Pure and simple, this no. 1 Billboard Hot 100 📉 hit by 🎙 24kGoldn featuring 🎙 iann dior has been igniting the charts. Why? It’s bright and bubbly, set in a major key, with an addictive, totally irresistible chorus. Furthermore, the youthful energy of 24kGoldn and iann dior is absolutely infectious. Honestly, there’s nothing groundbreaking about “Mood” but it’s a crowd-pleaser – a total MOOD!
2. Rauw Alejandro, “Mood”
Ft. Sech
Afrodisíaco • 🏷 Sony Music US Latin • 🗓 2020
“I know what you want and I got it / And she’s up to my length.” Length, huh? Wonder what Puerto Rican artist 🎙 Rauw Alejandro could possibly be referencing. Anyways, the English translation of 💿 Afrodisíaco, his debut studio album by is Aphrodisiac. That alone tells you that there’s sex and sexiness involved. Indeed, the song at hand, 🎵 “Mood” featuring Panamanian standout 🎙 Sech references the universal three-letter word. On the chorus (translated to English) the mood Alejandro has seems to involve switching positions, if you catch my drift (“But, baby, let’s change the mood / ‘Cause I want you over me”). Naughty it may be, “Mood” is definitely naughty fun.
3. SiR, “Mood”
Ft. Zacari
💿 Chasing Summer • 🏷 Top Dawg Entertainment / RCA • 📅 2019
According to 🎙 Zacari, “And I ain’t in the mood if it ain’t in my bag / … Do anything or the cash.” Clearly, Zacari likes his paper. He’s definitely an asset to “Mood,” a pretty sweet joint from 🎙 SiR. 🎵 “Mood” appears on SiR’s 2019 album, 💿 Chasing Summer. SiR confirms his first priority is money over sex. That said, when he’s in the mood – particularly when that money is right – he “Shine(s) the brightest.” Clearly, he can handle both the bag and the sack: “Soon as you get my attention, you know it’s goin’ down, oh.”
4. Beyoncé, “MOOD 4 EVA”
Ft. Childish Gambino, JAY-Z & Oumou Sangaré
💿 The Lion King: The Gift [Deluxe Edition] • 🏷 Columbia • 📅 2020
🎵 “Mood 4 EVA,” a standout from 💿 The Lion King: The Gift [Deluxe Edition], is filled with attitude. The attitude begins with the African intro (🎙 Oumou Sangaré) before 🎙 Beyoncé brings the heat on the first verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. The chorus is absolute fire: “I got my cup up to the heavens / Another night I won’t remember / Promise this my mood forever…” 🎙 Jay-Z arrives briefly on the post-chorus, before bringing electricity on the second verse. He concludes with the bullet, “‘Cause true kings don’t die, we multiply, peace.” Following the third verse, pre-chorus, and chorus by Bey, 🎙 Childish Gambino performs the bridge; a nice change of pace.
5. dvsn, “Mood”
💿 Morning After • 🏷 OVO / Warner • 📅 2017
“Now I’m gonna make a time to make love / I’m gonna make a point to just focus on us…” Definitely a #MOOD 🎙 dvsn! 🎵 “Mood” (💿 Morning After) commences with piano accompaniment and a slow tempo. The groove kicks in, alongside a prominent bass line, giving the record a soulful backdrop. Later, there are nice touches with synths and guitar. The falsetto served up during the performance by 🎙 Daniel Daley is absolutely stunning. The vibes given off by the Canadian R&B duo are sexy and sensual, period. We’d expect no less of a MOOD from them.
