Moneybagg Yo Tops for the First Time | Scanning the Charts

Scanning the Charts (5/8/21): Moneybagg Yo Tops the Billboard 200 while The Weeknd & Ariana Grande top the Hot 100.  

SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out 6 notable observations from the Billboard 200 ,  and 6 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 , with Moneybagg Yo topping the Billboard 200 and The Weeknd and Ariana Grande topping the Hot 100.

Billboard 200

Moneybagg Yo earns his first no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with A Gangsta’s Pain.  He knocks Young Thug (and company) out of the top spot as Young Stoner Life: Slime Language 2 slips to no. 2 in its second week.

Eric Church earns another top-5 album as Soul debut at no. 4, one spot better than Heart, which debuted last week at no. 5.  Worth nothing, & EP launches at no. 83.

The Weeknd sees After Hours reenter the chart in its 54^th week at no. 7.  Notably, it’s been certified double platinum as of yet.

Only two more debuts grace the top 40 of the Billboard 200 – Myke Towers’ Lyke Mike (no. 36) and Lil Yachty’s Michigan Boat Boy (no. 39).

Porter Robinson debuts at no. 52 with his long-awaited sophomore album, Nurture.

KALEO barely dents the charts with their new LP, Surface Sounds, which bows at no. 102 – OUCH!

Billboard Hot 100

The Weeknd and Ariana Grande top the Billboard Hot 100 once more with “Save Your Tears (Remix)”.

Polo G sees “RAPSTAR” slip from no. 1 to no. 4 after spending two weeks on top.

Lil Baby sees “On Me” ascend from no. 32 to no. 15 as Megan Thee Stallion joins him for the remix.

Moneybagg Yo also earns the highest ranking debut on the Hot 100 with “Shottas (Lala)” at no. 35.  Other songs from A Gangsta’s Pain also chart on the Hot 100.

H.E.R. debuts at no. 64 with her latest single, “Come Through” featuring Chris Brown.

AJR debuts at no. 99 on the Hot 100 with “Way Less Sad”, from their latest studio album, OK ORCHESTRA.
