Mod Sun, Movie © RostrumUp-and-comers Mod Sun and Dej Loaf join forces to deliver a hot, highly enjoyable track, “We Do This Shit.” Indeed, they do.

Mod Sun definitely isn’t a household name.  For that matter, neither is his partner in crime (Dej Loaf) for swag-filled single, “We Do This Shit.” Arguably, Dej Loaf’s name is more familiar.  Regardless, after unleashing “We Do” on the world, maybe more folks will want to check out MOD and Dej Loaf.

One thing that can’t “be beat” is slick production work.  The beat is excellent, while the ostinato piano adds the “cherry on top.” Coupled with the standout production work, Mod Sun delivers catchy rhymes on the verse and the hook.  The reason why he’s so successful is the fact that he shows off his big personality, particularly the ad libs.  As great as verse one is, MOD’s second verse (verse three) is arguably the best.

“Sometimes I’m hella picky / like when I’m pullin sticky out the zippy”

The pop-rap elements during Dej Loaf’s verse are superb. Coupled with the edgier, more aggressive and direct rhymes, the up-and-coming MC has something working for sure.  She ends up being a perfect fit for MOD.

Going back to the hook, it isn’t characterized by its profundity:

“We do this shit every night / we can get whatever you like”

While its simple and lacks depth, the hook is definitely catchy and appeals because of its catchiness. Of course for the carefree youth, having the “s-bomb” doesn’t hurt.  Is that reference even a proper alternative? Unimportant!

Final Thoughts

When it’s all said and done, “We Do This Shit” does just that…or something like that. It is well produced, catchy, full of personality from MOD and Dej Loaf.  It’s not the second coming, but it is both enjoyable and respectable.
