Rising 23-year old English pop artist MNEK showcases massive potential on “Tongue,” an advance single from his forthcoming debut album.
Flesh blood in the house! MNEK is a 23-year old pop, R&B, and dance artist from London, England. Influenced by many musicians, some notable names (stateside) include Bobby Brown and Bobby Brown and Calvin Harris. “Tongue” is the third advance single from his forthcoming debut album.
“Tongue” Begins abruptly with MNEK singing. From the get-go, he showcases the beauty of his voice. He possesses a gorgeous tone and a compelling falsetto, particularly on the pre-chorus section.
“So I'm not gonna say it No, I don't wanna say it I don't know how you'll take it So I’mma try not to say it 'Cause when I said it in the past Each time it didn't last So I'mma try not to say it But it feels like I might say it.”
A surprising change of pace occurs on the chorus. He begins singing in his lower register, in somewhat tongue in cheek fashion. While this ends up being an unexpected twist when it first happens, it’s also the crowning achievement of “Tongue.” The chorus is catchy AF.
“So I'm putting both hands over my mouth I can only hope nothing's gonna come out But there it is on the tip of my tongue (I think I love you) I think you're the one I'm putting both hands over my mouth I can only hope nothing's gonna come out But there it is on the tip of my tongue (I think I love you) I think you're the one.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, MNEK shines on “Tongue.” The eclectic pop record feature superb production work – danceable beat, warm synths, and an assertive chorus section. MNEK shows massive potential. This is a jam.
