Miller Guth & Charlie Brennan, Blame © BonFireRising DJ/music producer Miller Guth and smooth singer/songwriter Charlie Brennan make a formidable musical pair on dance single “Blame,” which also features Emma Rae.

Miller Guth and Charlie Brennan both epitomize musicianship and talent.  Who are these talented guys? Miller Guth, who is the ripe age of 20, is a multi-instrumentalist, self-taught music producer, and DJ.  Despite his youth, he’s already earned his fair share of accomplishments, building his brand in the dance-pop, EDM world.  As for Brennan, he’s a singer/songwriter from Connecticut, who got the music production bug early on, and plays guitar and piano. He’s released three studio albums, including The Last Time (February 2017).  The two, who collaborated on “When We Were Young,” a single from The Last Time, are back together once more for a new single, “Blame.”  Emma Rae provides the assist.

Charlie BrennanCutting straight to the chase, “Blame” is an alluring listening experience. The production work is stunning, catching the ears from the jump.  Clearly, there’s a mix of trap, with the sleek drum programming, as well pop and EDM.  The blend is sweet, with the drums providing some edge to the kinder, gentler warmth of the piano on the verses.  Following a brief introduction, Charlie Brennan gets to work quickly, further amplifying the case for “Blame” with his silky smooth, inviting pipes.  As for guest Emma Rae, she complements Brennan’s lead vocals well, earning a few notable moments of her own here and there.  The chemistry between the two is superb.

Miller Guth (Headshot, 2017)While the verses are cooler in sound, the chorus is where things grow more dynamic and exciting. In the spirit of EDM music, edgier, harder synths are ratcheted up, while Brennan’s vocals have been chopped and looped.  It’s an expected happening, but even so, it well executed from a production and songwriting standpoint.

Final Thoughts

Miller Guth and Charlie Brennan make a formidable team.  “Blame” is enjoyable, well-performed and well-produced. Emma Rae adds to the goodness with strong vocal support.  This record catches on from the first listen.
