Who is M.I.L.K.? – “That is the question”! We have an answer to that Shakespearean question!  M.I.L.K. is a Copenhagen-based, alternative pop artist. The song at hand, “Make My Way to Paris,”serves as the second single from his sophomore EP, Maybe I Love Kokomo, arriving May 25, 2018. He doesn’t ‘go it alone’ on this ‘trek to Paris.’ “Make My Way to Paris” features French singer/songwriter, Benjamin Biolay.According to M.I.L.K., the song is about “making it in Paris, but also making my way to Paris, physically speaking.”

There’s lots to like about “Make My Way to Paris.” Perhaps it all starts with the rhythmic groove that consistently anchors down the single. Beyond the groove itself, there’s the appealing, warm production work, sigh. This backdrop features a palette that includes smooth guitar and relatively laid-back synths.  “Make My Way to Paris” wouldn’t be great without something even smoother than the production – the captivating, easygoing vocals by M.I.L.K. Among his best moments are when he moves into his upper register – sweet to say the least.  He shines most on the catchy, infectious chorus.

Benjamin Biolay enters the picture late into “Make My Way to Paris.” Fittingly, he provides an contrast to M.I.L.K. with his deeper, more rhythmically-driven vocals. “…His part, rapped more than sung, is the purest version of what I admire in French poetry,” M.I.L.K. comments when describing the single.  These poetic, rapped portions by Biolay are definitely impressive.

Final Thoughts

According to M.I.L.K., “I’m proud of this collaboration, it’s probably my favourite song I’ve ever been part of.”  Clearly, he’s proud of “Make My Way to Paris,” and he should be.  Although it’s somewhat low-key, “Make My Way to Paris” is sound – well-rounded through and through.  Great vocals from both artists and solid production work. In regards to the songwriting, the chorus is the crowning achievement.
