Mike Posner plays to his strengths on “Move On,” the third single from his much-anticipated 2019 LP, ‘A Real Good Kid.’
“I wish Tracy Chapman was my friend / She would know exactly what to say / Beginnings always hide themselves in ends / At some point, I will be okay.” Poetic stuff Mike Posner, poetic stuff. “Move On” serves as the third single from his 2019 LP, A Real Good Kid (January 18, 2019). A Real Good Kid marks Posner’s first proper solo album since his 2016 LP, At Night, Alone., which featured the hit Seeb remix of “I Took a Pill in Ibiza”. But this isn’t about “Ibiza,” but rather, “Move On.”
Rhythmic guitar accompaniment proves to be a fitting backdrop for Posner on “Move On.” From the onset, a singer/songwriter vibe is easily perceptible. Notably, he delivers respectable vocals which work extremely well for this record. His distinct tone of voice shines here. Lovely, ‘powered’ harmonized vocals on the pre-chorus earn Posner yet another ‘W’:
“I got high when I met you I got high to forget you I feel pain, I don't want to But I have to, yeah, I have to.”
A sleek groove arrives during the chorus, even if the chorus is simple and utterly repetitive: “If I want to move on, move on, move on, move on.” The following second verse incorporates the groove, upping the ante following the more restrained and stripped nature of first.
Final Thoughts
“Move On” doesn’t’ scream pop hit necessarily – perhaps at all. That said, Mike Posner delivers a singer/songwriter record that is definitely enjoyable. Real Good Kid should be an interesting album to say the least.
