Innuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  In the 44th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Quickie” by 🎙 Miguel

Theme & Lyrics

“I don’t wanna be loved, I don’t wanna be loved / I just want a quickie.” Honestly, there’s little explanation needed for 🎵 “Quickie”, a highlight from 💿 All I Want is You. All I Want Is You is the 2010 debut album by 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter, 🎙 Miguel.  “Quickie” didn’t exactly ‘ignite’ the pop charts, but it did peak at no. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100. Again, there is little explanation needed as Miguel wants a quick, meaningless sexual experience with no strings attached. He has no intentions of forming a deeper bond.

The chorus, highlighted above, continues as follows:

“No bite marks, no scratches, and no hickies

If you can get with that, mami come get with me

I don’t wanna be loved, I don’t wanna be loved

I just want a quick fix

Up in your mix, miss, send me your wishlist

I have you addicted, so mami come hit this.”

Sex is the modus operandi, period.  Miguel is a horndog early on.  In the first verse, he asserts, “What’s in them jeans got my mind hectic.” Woo! In the second, he admits, “Mami, I realize that I’m mannish / I speak a language of love like Spanish.” My, my, my! That’s before he encourages her to “Get on them knees / I got a penny for your thoughts if you know what I mean.” Yup, he’s referencing head, and I’m not talking about the brain! All the while, Miguel tells her on the bridge, ‘Don’t be offended babe, by what I say,” later adding, “Call me your plumber / Knock on this wood, get rocked by this thunder.” Oh [fuck] boy! Of course, the music video 🎶📼 is sexy, as to be expected.

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageWhat more is there to say? My boy wants to smash and wants no commitment beyond those seconds of pleasure.  There’s little substance but this is a timeless, After Dark 🕛 🌃 gem.
