Migos return with a solid, luxurious, flex track with “Motor Sport.” They enlist two female rappers for the assist – Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
Migos have had a huge year in 2017, period. They instilled Culture into the music industry, and the industry hasn’t looked back since. Yes, that culture included “Bad and Boujee” and the incredibly refined, “All Ass.” Sigh. Now past instilling the culture, Migos return with a new, athletic single, “Motor Sport.” They’re assisted by not just one, but two female rappers – Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. You don’t see that every day! #Culture.
Beginning with the production work, it’s a beautiful combination of luxury and the trap. It’s sleek, but not overdone – a fitting backdrop for Migos to paint over. They do just that, continuing to drop their triplet-packed rhymes like its nothing. Quavo gets things started right, dropping the chorus, followed by the first verse. The chorus ends up being relatively catchy, not unlike other Migos songs. On his verse, Quavo uses sports metaphors (fittingly) and also references some prescription drugs – Xans, Perky…
Offset handles the second verse, dropping lines about a Lamborghini, Patek watches, and references “Bad and Boujee.” The Cardi B verse follows and she’s fierce to say the least. From the jump, she’s sexed up, referencing the penis right out the gate. Definitely unapologetic. A chorus separates Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, who informs the world, “Watch your man, then you should watch your mouth / Bitches is pressed, administer mouth to mouth.” She also references Jackie Chan, I Love Lucy, Nick Lombardi, Bugatti, and again drops her beloved “Bitch, you my son” line. Takeoff follows, referencing the “kitty,” Percocets, and his Richard Mille watch.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Motor Sport” is Migos being Migos, which is always a compelling experience. It’s well produced, while all five MCs involved drop captivating rhymes. There’s no glaring cons to be found, so indulge in the sport of it all.
