“We don’t give no fuck (No) / We don’t give no fuck (Fuck shit) / We don’t give no fuck (No) / We don’t give no fuck (Fuck shit).” That, ladies and gentlemen, is the chorus and the main idea of “Give No Fxk,” the first single of 2020 from Migos.  As you can tell, depth is not part of the equation whatsoever.  Even with such a simple idea, propelled by production by DJ Durel, Joseph L’Étranger, Murder Beatz, and Jonah Yano, The ATL collective brings Travis Scott and Young Thug along for the ride.

Focusing on the production first, it’s respectable, but nothing particularly innovative or ‘out of the box’ by any means.  Still, it gives all parties involved some inspiration… emphasis on the word ‘some.’ With eight songwriters – five of which being the rappers performing – that might be the biggest letdown regarding this particular record.  You would think with so many talented collaborators involved, there’d be more of a creative spark.  Unfortunately, that’s not the case because “Give No Fxk” is as surface level as its title suggests.

Quavo handles the aforementioned chorus, in all of its ‘non-fuckery’ you might say. Meanwhile, all three Migos play some role in the first verse, led by Takeoff, followed by Offset, and concluded by Quavo. Young Thug drops the second verse and honestly, he doesn’t much unless you consider lines like “Bitch too petty (Whoa, bitch) / Big machete (petty, petty)” or “I got a bulletproof truck, I got the backwards doors on the Royce” to be prodigious.  Yep, didn’t think so. Travis Scott at least includes more words on the third verse.  Still, he doesn’t say much either.  Seems to be the trend.

Final Thoughts

So, if Migos don’t “Give No Fxk,” why should we?  Exactly.  If you need a banger to give you a temporary lift, maybe the attitude exhibited by “Give No Fxk” suffices.  Otherwise, everybody knows that Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset have done better than this.
