Rising Riverside, Cali alt-pop artist Michl shines on his short, sweet, and mysterious-sounding single, “I’d Do It All Again.”
“Break me / Tear my bones apart / I don’t really need ‘em.” Riverside, California is in the house with rising alternative musician, Michl. That’s about all that we know about this talented newcomer. It should be noted that he released his self-titled, six-song EP back in 2016. After impressing on previous single “Better with You,” he comes back even more compelling on the short, but sweet “I’d Do It All Again.”
“I’d Do It All Again” is a brief record, clocking in under two-and-a-half minutes. With such limited time, what makes this single a gem? Among the selling points is the alluring, electronic production work. The synths have a hypnotic quality about them, creating that ‘buzz’ word, vibe. In addition to the vibe created by the backdrop are the beautiful vocals by Michl. On this slower, mysterious number, he delivers an enigmatic, haunting, and incredibly nuanced vocal performance.
“Stain me
Brand me what you want
I arrived here nameless…” (verse two)
Final Thoughts
We don’t know very much about Michl as of yet – understatement. That said, given the small sample size, it’s “so far, so good” for this rising musician. “I’d Do It All Again” checks off boxes in regards to production, vocal performance, and respectable songwriting. Perhaps “I’d Do It All Again” is least prolific lyrically, but, as aforementioned, the vibe is killer.
