Michl, Better With You © MichlRising California alternative pop artist Michl shines on his beautifully-sweet, romantic single, “Better with You,” produced by Mura Masa.

Riverside, California is in the house with rising alternative musician, Michl.  Honestly, that’s about the extent that we know about this talented newcomer.  It should be noted that he released his self-titled, six-song EP back in 2016.  Most pertinent to the present is his impressive new single, “Better with You,”which was produced by Mura Masa.

“Better with You” commences with a familiar, guitar-driven pop sound. The production is relatively restrained initially, never getting in the way of Michl’s voice.  On the first verse, he keeps things low-key, never forcing things.  Sometimes, vocalists who hold back earn the designation of being ‘boring.’ That’s not the case here, as Michl delivers radiant vocals, further enhanced by thoughtful vocal production.

The result eventually up being an alt-pop, electro-pop record that doesn’t overdo things. Following the calm start, synths enter into the mix, but it’s always non troppo (no too much).  Claps propel the pre-chorus section into the grand, but tasteful chorus.

“You’re in my veins

You’re in my blood

You stop the feeling of giving up

Oh, I know we don’t have much

This hell feels better with you

Better with you.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, despite knowing very little about Michl, he proves he’s indeed ‘one to watch’ with “Better with You.” Mura Masa delivers great production work that plays to his musical strengths.  Nothing the slight bit hellish about this one.
