Michael Ray, Amos © Warner Music NashvilleCountry singer Michael Ray asserts “She’s gonna be one hell of a one that got away” on “One That Got Away,” the fourth advance single from his sophomore LP, ‘Amos.’

Michael Ray once told us that “Real Men Love Jesus”. Amen.  He also previously asserted he’d “Kiss You in the Morning”.  Sexy to the nth degree. See where we’re going with this? Those songs appeared on the heavily-tatted, Floridian country singer’s major-label debut, Michael Ray, released in 2015. He’s back with a brand-new album, Amos (June 1, 2018).  In advance of Amos, Ray released five singles: “Get to You” (2017), “Fan Girl”, “Her World or Mine”“One That Got Away,” and “Summer Water”.  Ray asserts “She’s gonna be one hell of a one that got away.” Hmm – interesting.

Michael Ray is turned up for “One That Got Away.” Backed by fun, energetic production, Ray sings confidently and enthusiastically about this ‘one of a kind girl.’ Essentially, he paints her as being a mix of good (“Take me to church, show me the light”) as well as bad (“She’s got a mouth full of innuendo” and “Those hungry eyes can’t eat the night”).  Even though Ray likes her, he knows she’s way too wild (“She’s too ‘Wild Horses’ to be all mine”).  Even so – and being the man that he is – he’s excited for a ‘one night only show,’ evidenced by the chorus.

“She might only be mine tonight

But that’s alright, that’s okay

She’s gonna be one hell of a one that got away.”

Final Thoughts

Not only is the unnamed girl “one hell of a one that got away,” “One That Got Away” is “one hell of song” – well – for the most part.  Michael Ray doesn’t reinvent the wheel or himself, but he delivers fun and energy with solid vocals.  That, friends, goes a long way.
