Michael Ray, Amos © Warner Music NashvilleTatted Florida country singer Michael Ray keeps things incredibly simple and care free on “Fan Girl,” a promo single for his sophomore album, ‘Amos.’

Michael Ray once told us that “Real Men Love Jesus.” Amen. He also previously asserted he’d “Kiss You in the Morning.” Sexy to the nth degree. See where we’re going with this? Those songs appeared on the heavily-tatted, Floridian country singer’s major-label debut, Michael Ray, released in 2015. He’s back with a brand-new album, Amos, which is due June 1, 2018.  In advance of Amos, Ray wants us to know – particularly the women – he’s a “Fan Girl.”

If depth is your thing, don’t go into “Fan Girl” looking to find it. Ain’t happening! This is just a good ole, fun, contemporary country record.  Essentially, Michael Ray likens ‘fan girling’ for quote “watching [your] favorite band” to him fan-girling his bae.  That’s the premise of the song in the nutshell, illustrated in catchy, if corny/silly fashion on the chorus.

“Oh you give me that front field, screaming with my hands up
Walk in the room and everybody stands up
You got my heart singing whoa-oh-oh-oh
You steal my kisses and you steal the show
You know the way you work it, baby, you’re a natural
They love you in LA, NYC, and Nashville
That leather jacket and blue jean, I mean damn girl
I can’t help it, baby I’m a fan girl.”

Honestly, that’s about the size of “Fan Girl.”

Final Thoughts

Keeping it ‘short and sweet,’ “Fan Girl” is enjoyable, at least to an extent.  For those who have their share of issues with the utter corniness that some of contemporary country has become, this particular Michael Ray offering probably won’t make you smile. But if you don’t mind a carefree, somewhat silly, ‘reveals its cards early on’ song, well, you might fan girl “Fan Girl.”
