Michael Bublé returns with his second single, “My Kind of Girl,” from his forthcoming studio album, ‘Nobody but Me’.
After unveiling promo single “Nobody but Me” to the world, Canadian traditional pop extraordinaire Michael Bublé returns with a second single, “My Kind of Girl.” If “Nobody but Me” found Bublé expanding his style somewhat, “My Kind of Girl” is more traditional. Clearly, this single exemplifies the “Bublé lane.”
“My Kind of Girl” opens with lovely, exuberant horns. Overall, the orchestration is exceptional; there are nice touches with muted trumpet and bass trombone solos. Bublé’s performance is tongue-in-cheek at its best. He’s a master at this style. A sound instrumental section allows the big band to shine. The record closes on a “high note” (really a low note) with the bass trombone.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “My Kind of Girl” is soundly performed and produced. While it’s predictable, there’s no shame in predictability given the traditional pop style. Ultimately, this is a high-quality recording.
