Michael Bublé, Nobody But Me © Reprise

3 out of 5 stars

Following an update of his style (“Nobody but Me”) and a record playing his style tried-and-true (“My Kind of Girl”), Michael Bublé issues a third single, “I Believe in You.” “I Believe in You” shows another side of Bublé – his pop side.  “I Believe in You” is by no means a departure – many times, Bublé has released pop songs throughout his career.  “Home,” “Haven’t Met You Yet,” and “It’s a Beautiful Day” are a few contemporary pop songs that come to mind.

“I Believe in You” opens with rhythmic acoustic guitar – a far cry from the two previous singles released from Nobody but MeAs referenced earlier, the sound is more pop-oriented sound, specifically, adult contemporary pop. This provides a welcome contrast, not unlike Bublé’s past pop records.

“I Believe in You” possesses a lighter sound on the first verse. The second verse features fuller production.  This is a predictable trick, but successful. The intensity is amplified on the chorus, which   features an uplifting message, as suggested by the cliché title.  Ultimately, “I Believe in You” is a bit middle of the road. It soars, but could’ve soared somewhat higher.

 Final Thoughts

Not a game changing song, but “I Believe in You” is respectable and shows a different look for Michael Bublé.  This doesn’t trump his first two singles by any means, nor his typical style, but it’s a worthwhile listen and change of pace.  To reiterate, the biggest rub is that it is somewhat “middle of the road.”
