Meghan Trainor, Treat Myself [Photo Credit: Epic]After struggling to find a single that will stick, Meghan Trainor may have found her gem with “Treat Myself,” the title track from her third studio LP.

Following a two-year hiatus, Meghan Trainor returns August 31, 2018 with her third album, Treat Myself.  After releasing four relatively lukewarm singles, it seems that fifth time is charm.  Yes, “Treat Myself” is arguably the best of the bunch.  At the beginning, the groove is playfully established, providing an awesome foreshadow of the goodness to come. Once the groove is firmly established, well, it’s hella groovy.  The production incorporates piano, bass, and rhythm guitar.  Can you say #infectious?

Once the singing commences, Meghan Trainor enters in with that attitude.  She confidently sings, “Damn, I been working real hard on myself, on my health, and my happiness / Hit pause on my life, took time on my mind, been working less…” Early on, it’s clear that Trainor is giving herself a pat on the back.  In the past, sometimes, this approach has been viewed in an empowering way, while others have viewed it narcissistically.  Take your pick.  Really, the lyrics that matter the most come on the chorus and post-chorus, and their pretty simple, but moderately fun.

“Let me give myself a hand, uh-huh / Let me give myself a hand, uh-hu / Tell myself ‘get up and dance’ / So I move my feet, I love all of me, uh-huh / Let me give myself a hand.”

Final Thoughts

A few more notes about the best Meghan Trainor single of the bunch.  She delivers clear lead vocals.  While she’s not incredibly flashy, she has her fair share of respectable ad-libs.  The chorus section is catchy, with the other major selling point beyond the danceable, feel-good nature of this record. Also, worth noting, are the lovely backing vocals during the chorus section, as well as a great bridge section which provides a nice change of pace.  The jury is out on how Treat Myself will perform.  “Treat Myself” does provide Trainor a lift, but only time will tell if it’s enough of a lift.
