Meghan Trainor, No Excuses © EpicGrammy-winning pop artist Meghan Trainor returns with “No Excuses,” her first single since the release of her sophomore album, ‘Thank You.’

“Woo!” First things first.  It should be noted that pop singer Meghan Trainor is a Grammy-winner.  That’s quite a prestigious honor.  That said, artistically, Trainor has her fair share of skeptics.  Critics were quick to criticize here 2016 album, Thank You, specifically singles “No!” and “Me Too.” Despite the criticism and lack of awards success with album number two, Trainor returns with a new single, “No Excuses.”

“No Excuses” is a brief song that just crosses the two-and-a-half-minute mark.  Short, arguably, that’s a sufficient dose of Meghan Trainor. “No Excuses” is an up-beat record that’s utterly exuberant in sound. Like many Trainor records, it’s infectious, if incredibly corny sounding from the start. She continues to employ a tongue in cheek approach.

“Have you lost your mind? / Open up your eyes / Someone else / You must’ve confused me, confused me with / Someone else.”

Thudding kick drum (four on the floor) and rhythmic guitar define the production on the verse. Here, Trainor is feisty and sassy, exuding ample personality.  If nothing else, she’s chocked-full of energy.  The chorus is incredibly catchy lyrically.  Furthermore, the production is varied from the backdrop of the verse.

Final Thoughts

So, how does new Meghan Trainor stack up? Honestly, “No Excuses” isn’t game-changing or incredibly different from Trainor’s music of the past.  Essentially, “No Excuses” has the same pros and cons.  Lovers will love, haters will hate.
