“I’m a savage / Classy, bougie, ratchet / Sassy, moody, nasty / Acting stupid, what’s happening? / Bitch, what’s happening?” One of the hottest rappers in the game male or female is none other than Megan Thee Stallion.  Megan has been pretty prolific as both a solo artist and collaborator during her career as of yet. She followed up her debut, full-length album, Fever, with a nine-track EP, Suga in 2020. On much of Suga, Meghan is entertaining and unapologetic AF.  One of the best songs from the project is “Savage”, which I featured on 11 Intriguing Songs That are Hella SAVAGE.  On “Savage,” she gets banging production by J. White Did It. Throughout the original, Megan exudes savagery, with the centerpiece being the chorus (excerpted above).  What better way to extend the savagery than to bring Beyoncé in for the “Savage Remix”?

Compared to many remixes, “Savage Remix” is starkly different from the original.  The essence of the record doesn’t change, but lyrically, it’s a complete contrast.  Beyoncé puts her stamp on the remix early on, replacing the signature Megan Thee Stallion intro.  Notably, Bey has a sizable role on the record, which expands one-minute-and-a-half in length beyond the original.  Megan then delivers the first verse, which contrasts the original too, and adds some ad-libs by Bey.  Likewise, Bey ad-libs on the chorus, which remains intact, before dropping a sexy, savage verse of her own.  Essentially, the focus is on booty – “If you wanna see some real ass, baby, here’s your chance / I say, left cheek, right cheek, drop it low, then swang.” Moving to the third verse, both badass women contribute to the savagery equally, with some joint moments as well.  On a rare fourth verse, Beyoncé takes the reins, before one final collaborative chorus with Megan.

Final Thoughts

“Savage Remix” is definitely savage AF, but we expected it.  Adding Beyoncé always enhances any remix, and that’s the case here.  Does this version supplant the original? While it’s entertaining, risqué, sexy, and unapologetic, we must remember, Megan Thee Stallion held things down all by herself.  Still, “Savage Remix” is a winner.
