Megan Thee Stallion, Hot Girl Summer | Track Review

Rising rapper Meghan Thee Stallion enlists Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign for record that’s ready-made for summer, “Hot Girl Summer.”  

After releasing her full-length, debut mixtape, Fever in 2019, rising female rapper Megan Thee Stallion returns with new single that’s ready made for summer, “Hot Girl Summer.” The rapper enlists Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign for the assist.  Furthermore, Bone Collector and Juicy J handle the production end of things.

Following a gimmicky intro, Ty Dolla $ign drops the unapologetic, but melodic chorus:

“Real-ass n*gga, give a f*ck ‘bout a bitch
It is what it is, this some five-star dick
She a big ol’ freak, it’s a must that I hit
It’s a hot girl summer, so you know she got it lit…”

The modus operandi? Sex, and not just any sex – lit sex.  Megan Thee Stallion then proceeds to assert her authority, rather, her hot girl status, on the first verse and following pre-chorus: “Got a whole lot of options ‘cause you know a bitch poppin’ / I’m a hot girl, so you know ain’t shit stoppin’.” Fair enough.  Nicki Minaj follows-up with verse two, and like Megan, she keeps it real: “Who a hotter B? Who got a lot of D? / Who poppin’ like a P and he be hoppin’ out the V?” Wow… Later, Megan drops the third and final verse, with a predictable script: she’s lit, and so is the sex.

Final Thoughts 

So, how does “Hot Girl Summer” stack up? It’s an entertaining record through and through.  Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Ty Dolla $ign all successfully deliver.  The production by Bone Collector and Juicy J isn’t game changing, but it’s successful all in all.  Will “Hot Girl Summer” change your life? Probably not, but it’s raunchy fun.
