“I’d rather be a B-I-T-C-H (I’d rather keep it real with ya) / ‘Cause that’s what you gon’ call me when I’m trippin’ anyway.” Sure, Megan Thee Stallion – whatever you say.  The rapper indeed keeps it real (100, if you will) on her unapologetic single, “B.I.T.C.H.” Honestly, the title says it all, right? And if that’s NOT enough, the aforementioned excerpt provides confirmation, continuing, “You know you can’t control me, baby, you need a real one in your life / Them bitches ain’t gon’ give it to you right.”

Even though Megan Thee Stallion is bold lyrically, “B.I.T.C.H.” features a smooth, chill backdrop, contrasting her edginess superbly.  She can thank Helluva Beats for the production.  That said, she also owes a couple of lit samples gratitude.  Who does she need to also thank?  That would be Bootsy’s Rubber Band (“I’d Rather Be with You”) and 2Pac (“Rather Be Ya N__”).  Of course, it’s not all the sound of the record – Megan does some serious work. She’s on-point from the opening tip.  On the first verse, she unloads a bullet with the line, “Why you wanna play with me? You know I’m undefeated / A real hot girl know how to keep a nigga heated.” Damn.  The second verse “is like unto the first,” regarding the attitude:

“I got my mind on getting’ paid, we ain’t spoke in some days
He probably thinkin’ I’m in pain, but I’m really on game
Ain’t no nigga finna stop me, independent, I got me.”

Final Thoughts

So, how does “B.I.T.C.H.” stack up? It’s bold and explicit, but Megan Thee Stallion certainly delivers.  The production is a huge selling point, with the smoothness contrasting the edgy, unapologetic bars of Megan.  Furthermore, the chorus is catchy and quite memorable.  All in all, “B.I.T.C.H.” gets my seal of approval.
