Maty Noyes, Lava Lamps [Photo Credit: Republic]Rising pop artist Maty Noyes returns with an eccentrically fun & naughty single, “Lava Lamps,” assisted superbly by up-and-comer, Beekwilder.

Depending upon your preference, “Lava Lamps,” the new single by 20-year old pop artist Maty Noyes will either highly entertain you or perhaps annoy the bleep out of you.  But, those two polar opposites are applicable to any number of songs.  From my perspective, there’s definitely something endearing about “Lava Lamps,” which enlists another up-and-coming artist, Beekwilder.

The first thing that stands out about this tongue-in-cheek single is the production work, which has old-school vibes, and is chocked-full of gimmickry in its own right.  From the start, it’s clear that “Lava Lamps” will thrive off of its energy and being over-the-top.  Describing this record as ‘over-the-top’ may be an overstatement.  Beekwilder ‘draws first blood’ on both the chorus, as well as the first verse.  With some cool energy, he tells Noyes, “You can’t ignore it, you put these bitches in their place,” later adding, “Your pussy’s sweet like crème brûlée.”  It’s corny and of course edgy, but it adds to the charm eccentricity of the song, which never takes itself too seriously.

While Beekwilder is the biggest hype man for Maty Noyes, she holds her own.  Following his reference to her private parts, she asserts, “Hey it’s me / I’m the girl with the fake I.D. / Been dope on the scene since I was 16.” She gets salty too, singing on the bridge, “It’s me, rollin’ up with the tie-dye tee / Hey, it’s me / Little pussy with the voice like cream.” Hmm.  Prior to that, alongside her energetic hype man, she’s carefree on the chorus:

“Late night, I stay up
I’m way too high to hear ya
Get wasted, go crazy
I know you want to, baby.”

Final Thoughts

“Lava Lamps” is no lyrical or thematic masterpiece… understatement.  But, this is a fun, youthful, and highly infectious number.  Maty Noyes and Beekwilder exhibit superb chemistry artistically, selling “Lava Lamps” magnificently. Again, if you’re a fan of songs with more meaning and less edge, this probably isn’t your cup of tea.  But if you just want to have a little fun, Noyes and Beekwilder have you covered.
