โShitty morning, feeling broken / Wanna call you โcause Iโm not one for healthy coping.โ Itโs sounding like a total bummer, Matthew Orgel. Matters of the heart fuel his โshitty morningโ on โI Wish This Pillow Was Youโ. The opening lines preface how relatable this pop song is. Whether youโre gay, straight, bi, or otherwise, the feelings that Orgel expresses speak volumes. But, you know whatโs not shitty? Orgelโs musicianship! A 2022 graduate of the Berklee College of Music, he has a stellar voice, including a ripe, youthful falsetto, awesome songwriting chops (his degree), and is a multi-instrumentalist including playing the best instrument of them all, the piano (Iโm biased, admittedly)! He penned โI Wish This Pillow Was Youโ alongside Camila Solis. He also produced this fine, honest number.
The young musician shines from the opening to the closing tip of โI Wish This Pillow Was You.โ When it comes to this man, he admittedly canโt help himself, and thatโs not good. โGot no self-control, someone take my phone / Before I text you and youโre taking off my clothes,โ he sings, continuing, โโCause every time you end up back in my bed / It takes a week for me to clear up my head.โ Oh, snap! So, whatโs the problem with this โrelationshipโ? Itโs not a relationship. Itโs giving FWB, and Orgel acknowledges heโs nothing more than fun for this guy he canโt get enough of. He wants their fun to be more but knows it wonโt happen. Still, โBut damn, youโre just my type / And I wish this pillow was you.โ Self-destructive, Matt suffers from sheets that smell like this hottie heโll never attain, and being left on read, yet, still wants him badly. As they say, the definition of insanity โis doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different resultsโ. Is Matthew Orgel insane? Probably not, but, โlikeโ and love will make you do crazy things, hence why heโs willing to subject himself to less than he deserves. โI Wish This Pillow Was Youโ is not only a sweet addition to the growing collection of gay bops but also a cautionary tale regarding unrequited love. Sex and love are not the same thing. Even if it feels good physically, emotionally, it can be damaging and detrimental.
