Math: 3BOPS No. 21 (2021) [📷: Pixabay, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype]On the 21st edition of 3BOPS, we select three awesome songs that are associated with MATH in some form or fashion.

On 3BOPS, we are totally dedicated to keeping things L-I-T-E! Similar to 5ive Songs, there’s a topic and a short blurb, only with THREE songs instead of FIVE.  Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  On the 21st edition of 3BOPS, we select three awesome songs that are associated with MATH in some form or fashion.

1. Ariana Grande, “34+35 (Remix)”

Ft. Doja Cat & Megan Thee Stallion

💿 Positions (Deluxe) • 🏷 Republic • 📅 2021

Ariana Grande, Positions (Deluxe) [📷: Republic]On the🎵 “34 + 35 (Remix)” from 💿 Positions (Deluxe), the first verse remains intact, where 🎙 Ariana Grande makes sure she’s taking care of herself so that she can keep him and the sex can remain lit.  The innuendo, unsurprisingly, is over the top (the song title does add up to 69 after all): “Can you stay up all night? / Fuck me ‘til the daylight / Thirty-four, thirty-five.” Where things change on are the second and third verses.

🎙 Doja Cat appears on the second verse, playing off the sexual vibes of the theme (“I want that six-nine without Tekashi / And I want your body and I’ll make it obvious”), with Grande following up with the sexy chorus. Then, 🎙 Megan Thee Stallion drops the third verse, remaining unapologetic and sexed-up to the nth degree (“I’m up like Starbucks, three pumps, ooh / This pussy good for your health, call it superfood.” The original magic of “34+35” is retained on the “34+35 (Remix).” Both Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion bring the heat.

2. Muse, “Algorithm”

💿 Simulation Theory • 🏷 Warner • 📅 2018

Muse, Simulation Theory [📷: Warner]🏆 Grammy winning alternative rock band 🎙 Muse kicks off their 2018 album, 💿 Simulation Theory, epically (and mathematically). 🎵 “Algorithm” features slick, rhythmically -driven electronic production (synths), as well as some stellar classical music cues.  Muse doesn’t get into a rush, as front man 🎙 Matthew Bellamy doesn’t begin singing until after the minute-and-a-half-long instrumental intro.

Once Bellamy does begin singing, he’s incredibly high-flying.  Know one thing:

“This means war
With your creator.”

Boom!

3. Beyoncé, “1+1”

💿 4 • 🏷 Sony • 📅 2011

Beyonce, 4 [📷: Sony]“I don’t know much about algebra, but I know 1+1 = 2…” 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B artist 🎙 Beyoncé opted for experimentation on her fourth studio album, 💿 4 (2011). 4 definitely contrasted 💿 Dangerously in Love, 💿 BDAY, and 💿 I Am…Sasha Fierce that preceded it. Even revisiting 4, it was under appreciated.  One of the best moments, was 🎵 “1+1,” which found Beyoncé bringing some math into the picture, as aforementioned.

Beyoncé gives a lovely performance on this ballad, which originally commenced 4 with something of a departure.  Since then, the sequence of the track list has been changed – interesting! The production is well-rounded (Beyoncé, 🎛 Terius “The-Dream” Nash and 🎛 C. “Tricky” Stewart) and the songwriting is pretty sweet as well.  No, “1+1” isn’t the exemplification of a certified poetic masterpiece, but it’s certainly enjoyable and chocked-full of love and dedication.

“When my days look low
Pull me in close and don't let me go, make love to me
So, when the world’s at war, let our love heal us all
Right now, baby, make love to me.”
