Decorated R&B singer-songwriter and actress Mary J. Blige pleads a compelling case for romance on her smooth single, “Want Love.”
“Want Love” is about being in a mature space for love. The second verse echoes the first, with Mary J. Blige seeking a man who is R-E-A-D-Y. She makes it clear she is serious – not playing around! “If you, if you’re reading on the same page / I’m not here for playing kid games.” And of course, in the crème de la crème, the chorus, she just comes right out and speaks on the desires of her heart:
“I want somebody who makes me feel like everything
I want, want love, want love, want love
I don’t want nobody that won’t fight for me
I want, want love, want love, want love, oh.”
Oh, indeed! By the bridge, she cries foul about the BS: same thing, heartbreak, having to wait. Ultimately, our girl just wants love, that’s all! Supported by lush, rhythmic, and vibrant adult contemporary R&B/grown-folks music accompaniment, Mary J. Blige eats! Her voice sounds expressive, nuanced, and refined, while she sounds authentic and sincere to the nth degree. Listening to “Want Love”, there is no doubt whatsoever that MJB is seeking the one. Those delightful, energetic ad-libs speak volumes, Mary!
