Grammy-winning R&B artist Mary J. Blige taps Academy/Grammy-award winner H.E.R. for a compelling remix of “Good Morning Gorgeous.”
S
ometimes, a remix can make a good track even better.Notably, Blige and H.E.R. treat the remix collaboratively. Essentially, the ladies trade lines, which works effectively. Even so, MJB always leads the charge ensuring that she’s the star of her song. I appreciate the contrasts of both women’s voices. Blige is more dynamic while H.E.R. is more chill and reserved. Regardless, they work well together. We’d expect no less from two decorated, award-winning musicians.
Final Thoughts
So, answering the question posed above, does the remixed version of “Good Morning Gorgeous” trump the original? No, not necessarily. It is a welcome contrast to the original that finds both Mary J. Blige and H.E.R. singing well, but it doesn’t supplant it in my eyes. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that – it doesn’t have to eclipse it. “Good Morning Gorgeous” remains a compelling song and one of the best moments from Blige’s fine, under-appreciated comeback album.
