Marvin Sapp, Chosen Vessel [๐Ÿ“ท: Provident / Sony]For the 2nd Thankful Song ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŽถ, we highlight & examine the gratitude laden โ€œThank You for It Allโ€ by contemporary gospel artist, Marvin Sapp.

โ€œIย thank you for it all / The good, bad, the ugly, great and small / The times of victory when I fall / Iโ€™m so grateful that Iโ€™m still standing tall.โ€ Amen, ๐ŸŽ™ Marvin Sapp! Before we dig into this inspirational standout, let me remind you the premise of Thankful Songs ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŽถ! On Thankful Songs ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŽถ, we highlight songs in which the musician (or musicians) show gratitude about something or towards someone. ย This idea came from the fact that in November, here in the United States of America, many Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.ย  So, what better way than to celebrate than select some awesome songs that exhibit gratitude? Our second entry comes from, Sapp and his uplifting ๐ŸŽต โ€œThank You for It All,โ€ which hails from his 2020 album, ๐Ÿ’ฟ Chosen Vessel.

Contemporary black gospel artists definitely donโ€™t get the same buzz as black rap artists, or even black R&B artists.ย  That said, Marvin Sapp has experienced some great chart success that few gospel musicians enjoy not named ๐ŸŽ™ Kirk Franklin or ๐ŸŽ™ Mary Mary. ย The single that put him on the map was ๐ŸŽต โ€œNever Would Have Made Itโ€ from his 2007 album, ๐Ÿ’ฟ Thirsty. ย More traditional in sound than most of the songs Kirk Franklin might release, the positive message resonated, earning it a rare spot on the Billboard Hot 100 (peaked at no. 82).ย  The success would carry over as Sappโ€™s follow-up album, ๐Ÿ’ฟ Here I Am, debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard 200!

Enough background though โ€“ letโ€™s devote the energy to โ€œThank You for It All!โ€ย  The opener from Chosen Vessel just feels totally right.ย  Sapp emphasizes giving God gratitude for all situations, including those that are the most difficult and uncomfortable. ย Why, you ask, would you ever be thankful for the bad? Well, per Sapp, it is because God has blessed us with life itself, as well as surviving the storms, turbulence, and tribulations that come with it.

โ€œAll that I am is because
All that You brought me through
And everything I survived
Itโ€™s all because of you.โ€

The songwriting is simple, yet, perfectly executed.ย  Sappโ€™s choir amplifies his emotional highs, taking โ€œThank You for It All,โ€ to the next level.ย  Whether youโ€™re religious or not, you should appreciate the spirit exhibited โ€“ the deference Marvin shows to The Most High.
