Rising Berkley-born R&B teen musician Marteen shines on his well-rounded, hella smooth, heartbreak-filled single, โThis Shit Sux.โ
โAye / I guess that he meant more than meโฆโ Sigh, matters of the heart have rising teenage R&B singer/songwriter Marteen all messed up. Loveโll do it. The up-and-coming Berkley-born standout โkeeps it 100โ when it comes to being heartbroken on the short, sweet, and pained single, โThis Shit Sux,โ released at the tail-end of 2018 (December 21).
The production is lush and smooth, idiomatic of urban contemporary music. The backdrop is perfect fuel for Marteen to reminisce back on love, the hardships of love, and his present disgust. Following the short first verse (excerpted above), he drops the reminiscent pre-chorus on the listeners:
โI know we had our off days I thought that we were always Remember you would say you were gonna change But it was hard to fake.โ
Expectedly, he drops the โs-bombโ on the memorable chorus. Sure, thereโs not much deep about a line like โThis shit sucksโ or even its supporting lines, but Marteen perfectly paints the state of his mind and heart. Furthermore, everyone can relate to the profane, โpoopyโ titular lyric. The second verse features more lyrics than the first, thanks to rhythmic, rapped vocals. It doesnโt last long, before the return of the pre-chorus and chorus, before the arrival of the contrasting bridge.
Final Thoughts
All in all, Marteen drops a respectable, well-executed heartbreak record with โThis Shit Sux.โ No, the kid doesnโt reinvent pain โ thatโs happened throughout the course of history โ but he totally sells the plight heโs experiencing. Vocally, his youthful pipes are refreshing, and the production work provides him with a lift. Safe to say, nothing โsuxโ about this record in the least, or the talented Marteen himself.
