The spirit of Juice WRLD is alive and well on “Bye Bye,” a collaborative single with Marshmello that arrives officially three years after being leaked.
“Ihit her with a bye-bye, bye-bye / You’re out your mind / I’m out of pills / And you’re out of lies.” Woo! R.I.P. Juice WRLD, who’s been dead nearly three years (my, how time flies). The song at hand,
“Bye Bye”, was recorded three years ago, but wasn’t officially released. Now, three years later, this brief collaboration with
Marshmello gets its proper bow. Sadly, Juice WRLD isn’t alive to see it.
“Um, see you later, uh / Girl, I got a question for you, yeah, I need a favor / Turn yourself back to a demon, I’m a demon slayer.” Even though Juice is no longer with us, his spirit, in all its glory, is written all over this track. His melodic performance is spot-on, as he leaves this girl – giving her that bye-bye after all! Also, true to self, Juice references drugs, throws in some captivating pop cultural references (The Matrix and Hell’s Kitchen), and mentions his dreamcatcher (“I remember havin’ a dream catcher when I was like ten / Set that bitch on fire, all my dreams been comin’ true since”). What’s interesting about the set that bitch on fire lyric is how it applies to his disdain for this girl! Also, can’t fail to mention the rad trap production Marshmello serves up. It’s the perfect backdrop for the late melodic rapper.
Final Thoughts
There’s no doubt that Juice WRLD’s memory is enduring. Even approaching three years after his tragic passing, collaborations, and music previously unreleased, continue to arrive. Although
“Bye Bye” is short, it’s definitely sugary sweet.
