Marshmello and Jonas Brothers collaborate for a second time on the pleasant, well-rounded pop single, “Slow Motion.”
Back together again! Who? Why Marshmello and Jonas Brothers (Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas)! “Slow Motion” marks the second collaboration between them, following “Leave Before You Love Me” released in 2021. The two-and-a-half-minute pop cut is credited to seven songwriters, none of which are the Jo Bros. Marshmello, Digital Farm Animals, Earwulf, and Connor McDonough, who produced it, are among the writers.
The motion may be slow, but “Slow Motion” gets off to a fast start. The guitar riff is lovely and sounds inviting. The production is top-notch, particularly during the big chorus and post-chorus. During the first chorus, anchoring drums make “Slow Motion” sound more robust. During the post-chorus, colorful synths enhance the backdrop. The first voice heard is Nick Jonas. He brings warm, welcoming vocals (“Something that you doin’ got me thinkin’ / I’ma take my foot up off the gas”). His pipes are further enhanced by terrific vocal production. Among the best features are the nicely harmonized vocals during the pre-chorus (“She said, ‘Hey, I like where this is going / So, let’s just take it slow, slow motion’”). Joe Jonas provides contrast in the second verse (“Baby, I can promise I’ll still be here by tomorrow / But I can’t give you all of me tonight”). He joins Nick selectively during the second pre-chorus and final post-chorus, singing alongside him in the final chorus. The chorus is the crème de la crème – the section to beat!
“Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Alright, alright, alright
So, let’s just take it slow, slow motion
All day, all day, all day
All night, all night, all night
Yeah, I’ma take it slow, slow motion.”
Ultimately, “Slow Motion” is an enjoyable, well-rounded dance-pop record. Marshmello and Jonas Brothers make a formidable team.
