Marcus King, F*ck My Life up Again | Song Review 🎵

Grammy-nominated, alternative singer/songwriter Marcus King impresses on his authentic, honest, and soulful single, “F*ck My Life up Again.”

Anytime the f-bomb graces a song title, it’s a must-hear, right? Right! Although “Fuck My Life up Again” is profane, Marcus King serves up a marvelous, marvelous song.  Honest – brutally so – the Grammy-nominated musician penned “Fuck My Life up Again” alongside Dexter Wansel.  Producing this f-bomb gem is none other than Rick Rubin.  The sounds are nothing short of… fucking awesome! It commences with an epic groove.  Furthermore, electric piano serve as a perfect accompaniment.  If that’s not enough ear candy, what about the gorgeous strings, not to mention other touches that make this song a triumph.  And here’s the thing… We haven’t even mentioned King’s vocals yet!

The instrumental backdrop is fabulous, but the star of the show is none other than Marcus King.  His voice is distinct, expressive, and nuanced. Personally, this was my first time hearing the singer and let me just say, I already consider him one of the more distinct singers I’ve ever heard.  He sounds authentic to the nth degree.  Furthermore, the songwriting is terrific, and the melodies – sensational! “The problem’s always me / Just taking years for me to see,” he asserts in the second verse, adding, “You didn’t call again last night / Maybe I’m just not worth the fight.” The chorus, unsurprisingly, is the section to beat. “Come fuck my life up again / Don’t deserve to live without pain,” King sings, continuing, “Destroy my confidence again  / Watch me lose control and feel the shame.” Ooh-wee! Highlighting the instrumental once more, there is a delicious guitar solo following the second chorus, performing over the lush backing vocals and dramatic strings.  Also, the outro marks another stupendous moment (“Hope you’ll never let me go through the years / Hope your madness starts to grow”). “Fuck My Life up Again” is a surefire winner from start to finish.
