Marc E. Bassy shines on “Plot Twist,” a slickly produced, sexy single from his full-length album, ‘Gossip Columns.’ KYLE provides the assist.

We last heard from Marc E. Bassy in 2016, when he dropped his second EP, Groovy People.  Difficult to classify or pigeonhole, Bassy is eclectic. He incorporates pop, urban, and singer/songwriter cues into his music. This makes him a compelling artist – one chocked full of potential.  Perhaps the best way to categorize him is as a pop artist.  Following his 2016 EP, Bassy drops a full-length album, Gossip Columns. In advance of Gossip Columns, Bassy issued a number of singles including “So Simple,” “Plot Twist,” “You & Me,” and “Plot Twist (Remix).” KYLE assists Bassy on “Plot Twist.”

There are plenty of things to like about “Plot Twist.”  The production work is slick – clearly embracing the modern pop script.  As far as characterizing the song itself, it blends urban contemporary and pop – we call that urban-pop.  In addition to the musical sounds and vibes, Bassy gives a sweet performance, thanks especially to a rich, sexy falsetto.  Also strengthening the case of the song is the sex game spit throughout.  This is part of the plot twist, BUT, clearly Bassy is into only ONE girl.

“Plot twist, I never thought it would end up like this / I always thought it would only be one kiss / One became a hundred / Oh, all of a sudden, I’m saying, ‘I love you’ / Plot twist, everything’s happening so quick / I only wanted a taste of your lips / Lips became your body, nice turned into naughty / You hit me with a plot twist.”

Final Thoughts

Marc E. Bassy has a hit on his hands with “Plot Twist.”  It’s well-produced, well-sung (that falsetto!), and sexy to the nth degree.  KYLE provides a nice assist, suiting the style of Bassy. There are no glaring flaws to be found, just enjoyableness to the nth degree.
