Mad Tsai, HOUNDSOFHELL | Song Review

Pop singer-songwriter Mad Tsai shows off his dark side on his fierce, hellish single, “HOUNDSOFHELL.”

“All my friends, they call me a saint / They don’t know how I misbehave.” Oh, really, Mad Tsai? You do look angelic, not to mention easy on the eyes.  However, he exhibits his dark side on his infectious, minor-key single, “HOUNDSOFHELL”. Mad Tsai wrote “HOUNDSOFHELL” with JT FOLEY and producer inverness. The results yield anotha one, as in, another bop for our bisexual pop star.

“HOUNDSOFHELL” begins with a massive crescendo (including barking dogs) that sets the tone.  The looped vocals that follow in the intro – “Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah / Ah, ah, ah-ah / Ah-ah, ah-ah / Oh-oh-oh” – are cool as well. A hard-hitting, stomping beat anchors.  With fabulous musical accompaniment supporting him, Mad Tsai eats.  His vocals are clear and playful. His tenor sounds boyish and innocent, yet the lyrics pack a mean punch. “All the fake shit, where’s your Oscar? / Wearin’ my name like a collar,” he sings in the first verse, and concludes, “Threw you a bone just to get scratched / Meet my canines / Bitch, I bite back.” Oh, shit! In the second verse, there are some great harmonized vocals as he continues to bite: “This is payback / Hit the chorus.” Of course, the chorus is sugar, honey, iced tea, where Tsai asserts, “I’m gonna drag you to the hounds of hell.” D-d-damn! More like, damned!  The bridge is intriguing, too, with Tsai pointing out the fact that true colors were revealed – DUN, DUN, DUN! Beyond the music and lyrics, I must shout out to the fierce single cover art.  Mad Tsai is as hot as ever, even while baring his teeth, surrounded by those black, hellish hounds, in all of their canine, infernal glory! “HOUNDSOFHELL” is another surefire bop from Mad Tsai, an artist who deserves far more attention.
